Red hair is in fashion right now!, and we have done all shades of red for some of our customers over at @hairdayy. The key statement we hear is “I want to do red hair but not sure which shade of red will suit me”, So we are here to save the day. In this article we will breakdown which shade of red works for which skin tone.
There are basically three categories of skin tones – warm, cool and neutral (read more about how to identify your undertone here)
Warm undertone
If you have a warm undertone (i.e. gold jewelry tends to look good on you), you might have a harder time pulling off some red shades but before you cry, we have put together some great examples of celebrities who have been able to pull it off, if they can so can you babe. Rihanna is the queen of red hair and she has tried a lot of different red shades; we are sure you will find one you like. You can try Burgundy, Plum, Merlot, and some coppery red shades.
Cool
If you have a cool undertone (i.e. silver jewelry tends to look good on you) then you are in lucky fish, a lot of red shades tend to look good on cool-toned skin. You can pretty much try any shade but cherry and scarlet hues would look amazing on you.
Neutral undertones
If you have neutral skin tones (i.e. you look good with either gold or silver jewelry) it might be tricky to find a red shade that suits you, best thing to do is look for celebrity inspos. Strawberry reds look good on people with neutral undertones, you can also go with brown-red tones such as a soft cinnamon brown. If all else fails, you will be safe with highlights, face-framing highlights are so in at the moment. Let us know what shade of red you have tried or would try and why.
with love,
B
