MY TOP FAV OIL BRANDS FOR HAIR EXTENSIONS

Hair extensions, like our own hair, require care. Hair extensions actually require more care because they do not get nutrients from the scalp like our natural hair. It is a good idea to nourish your hair extensions at least once a week to keep it looking shiny and healthy. I normally do twice a week if I remember but certain brands are safe to use daily.

I tend to stay away from organic coconut oil and castor oil, although some people say it is safe to use on extensions. I find that it clogs my hair extensions. I prefer serum oils as they are lightweight and a little goes a long way. Also, try to avoid using oil on the roots of your extensions because it can soften the weave tracks, break microbeads or loosen the adhesive on tape or keratin extensions.

As a long time hair extension wearer and hair professional, I have tried quite a number of oil brands on different types of hair extensions and found that the following work best for me:

1. Kair Daily Repair Ultra-Light Serum - this serum is literally ultra-light despite the liquid being a bit thick compared to other serums. it adds shine without clogging the hair, helps keep hair smooth and prevents frizz or fly away. This serum is the most affordable of the next few I will mention.

2. John Frieda Frizz Ease 6 Effects Serum - like the Kair serum, this oil really helps to keep the hair smooth and prevents frizz. It can also be used as a humidity and heat protector. It is a bit more expensive compared to Kair but a little goes a long way, hence it is worth the investment.

3. ORS Olive Oil Heat Protection Serum - as this is a heat protection serum, I like to use it after washing and air drying my hair extensions. I put some of it just before using any heat appliances like a straightener on my hair extensions.

4. Natural World Brazilian Keratin Smoothing Therapy Hair Treatment Oil - Long name, I know, but this oil is literally life. I use it mainly on my straight hair extensions, especially after straightening, because it gives my hair extensions a Brazilian Keratin finish and I end up with lustrous super straight hair. I only apply a small amount as it can look a bit oily on the hair and I only apply it again when my hair starts losing its shine or the next time I wash my extensions.

5. Pantene Instant Split End Mender Serum - I like to use this oil on my colour treated hair extensions because hair dyes can leave hair extensions dry and with split ends. This oil helps to give colour damaged hair an instant healthy look but you have to keep applying it to see lasting results of course. I also love the way it smells so I use it to give all my extensions a lovely fresh floral smell.

Thats my list guys, if you try any of these oils please let me know how it worked for you. Also comment below if there are some you have used and would recommend. Of course all the above mentioned products can be purchased at any Clicks or Dischem stores if you are in SA. All brands are also international brands and I am sure can be found at Pharmacies or Beauty Supply Stores wherever you are. Enjoy,

with love,

B
